Rapier / Fire Staff PvP Build

Season 1

This build deals nasty single target and AOE damage while being one of the most mobile fighters on the battlefield. Perfect for solo or small scale hit and run fighting, and a personal favorite of mine, so I hope you guys enjoy!

Fire Staff got a pretty big rework this patch and can deliver tons of AOE damage at a distance with this setup while also putting out serious burn pressure. Both weapons having a gap closer is huge both offensive and defensively, and makes this build one hell of a setup for chasing people down or escaping!

Check out a video guide with gameplay for this build!

This is a main-hand Rapier build at heart, and the Attribute spread reflects the huge investment into Rapier damage. This is a huge reason why I run 150 DEX on this build, you loose a bit of Fire Staff damage (~20%) but trade it in for the same increase in Rapier damage while also taking advantage of the very powerful 150 DEX stamina passive. If you want to run more of a Fire Staff centric playstyle you can always put those points back in INT instead!

As always 150 CON helps immensely in PvP thanks to that Critical Damage reduction, so again as a Light Armor melee fighter you will defiantly want to get 150 CON to help you survive incoming burst damage. The 200 INT jump point gives this build all the Mana sustain it needs, but if you are lower Gear Score and cannot reach 200 mana potions can help!

This build has surprisingly good Fire Staff damage for only having 210 INT, this is largely thanks to it being a Light Armor setup (+20% Bonus Damage), the Ignited Runeglass gems (+10% Fire Damage), and diminishing returns on stacking a single Attribute.

Dexterity

  • 50: +10% chance to critical hit. +10% skinning speed.

  • 100: +5% thrust damage. +20% haste for 3s after skinning.

Intelligence

  • 50: +10% critical hit damage. +10% harvest speed.

  • 100: +5% damage to light and heavy magic attacks. 5% chance for 1 Azoth when harvesting.

  • 150: +15% to elemental damage. -10% decrease in weight of harvested items.

  • 200: +10 mana after a dodge. +10% harvest speed.

Constitution

  • 100: Increase max health by 10% of your physical armor. -10% reduction on durability loss for tools.

  • 150: -10% to critical damage taken. -10% decrease in weight of logging items.

Equipment

The ideal Rapier for this build would be Rogue, Flame Attunement, Keenly Jagged. Not only would this Rapier be great for damage dealing, but all the extra DOTs from its attacks play a huge roll in your stamina sustain thanks to the Controlled Breathing Rapier passive. Officer’s Ceremony is by no means a bad choice however, as it is one of the hardest hitting PvP Rapiers in the game!

Again my Fire Staff is not entirely the perks I would like thanks to my Ironman limitations, but ideally it would be Empowering Fireball, Keen Speed, Vicious or Attunement. Keen Speed being a very useful perk for this build as it greatly increases your survivability with the staff out.

This patch the BIS armor perks for PvP would be Elemental Aversion, Resilient, Freedom. You definitely DONT want to run shirking fortification in light armor this patch if you can help it! As always I like to have Shirking energy on my legs for the stamina sustain.

If I could, the only weapon perk I would also add is Omnidirectional Evade to my armor or even Rapier perks.

Health, Stamina Recovery and Shirking Empower are basically the best necklace perks for a damage build. For the ring I again have perfect perks in Hearty, Keen Awareness, Invigorated Punishment, although I wouldn’t mind swapping Hearty for Leaching if I could! Both of these jewelry pieces are easily obtainable from the PvP reward tracks too! Finally for the Earing, Healthy Toast and Refreshing Toast are must haves in PvP. I would also love Regenerating as the 3rd perk.

The Cannon Blast Heartrune is amazing with Fire Staff as it just gives you more powerful ranged AOE options! You can always go for Vines or Stoneform here too.

Since Elemental Aversion will reduce most elemental damage attacks that players use, this build focuses on reducing Thrust damage. Thrust Damage is the most common damage type in PvP, especially because of those bows!!

You will need food to reach the jump points that this build requires, and don’t be shy to use a honing stone too! Remember to use both Health, Mana, and Regeneration Potions in PvP! Both the Oakflesh Balm and Gemstone Dust are great consumables to have slotted incase you need a bunch of extra resists.

Active Skills

Rapier

Flourish And Finish - 3/5 Upgrades

Access to grit, a very fast AOE stagger, and a powerful follow up attack all in one. This skill is excellent for closing out a kill on an opponent while also offering a ton of defensive utility. I only take the first 3 upgrades here due to not running any of the rapier bleeds on this setup.

Evade - 5/5 Upgrades

Evade is arguably the Rapier’s best skill. It not only allows you to have a brief moment of invulnerability, but makes you more mobile, can be used to attack, and can cancel any ability or action! This is a very unique effect and gives the Rapier a high skill ceiling for PvP combat. Omnidirectional Evade can make this skill stack even more damage on your next attack too!

Fleche - 4/4 Upgrades

This is not only an amazing gap-closer for attacking and getting away, but it is also a quick way for you to get behind an opponent and hit them with a strong backstab. This is also a very fast skill to cast and does quite a bit of damage on the initial hit too!

Fire Staff

Fireball - 2/3 Upgrades

With Empowering Fireball on the staff, this skill can do some serious AOE burst damage to anyone above 50% health. The blast is also rather large making it easy to land on a moving target. Fireball this patch is your go to opening skill for this build especially since it applies a burn on hit now. This skill is also really great at procing Keen Speed when you hit multiple players with it! The last upgrade is skipped here as it doesn’t give any damage increase.

Pillar Of Fire - 2/3 Upgrades

Pillar is so much smoother to use since the new update and has quickly become a favorite of mine. This hard hitting skill has a very short cooldown and a decent sized AOE blast radius, making is a very deadly AOE that your opponent has to always watch out for. The last upgrade is skipped as it again does not offer any damage increase.

Burn Out - 3/3 Upgrades

Burn Out is great as it is the longest distance gap closer in the game. This skill does decent damage if you hit anyone while rushing forward and will now cause an explosion at the very end that you can stack with the initial hit! Not only is this great for offense but it’s a fantastic defensive escape as well!
