War Hammer / Fire Staff PvP Build

Brimstone Sands

Ever wanted to kill groups of players?

Well here is powerful AOE burst damage build that can kill multiple players at one time. The whole build is designed to get Incinerate to hit as hard as possible by setting up your combo with Shockwave. This is an INT spec so the War Hammer doesn’t do a ton of damage and is mostly used for its utility with all the stuns and GRIT.

I found this build to do very well in OPR and other group PvP settings, while still being viable solo. Hope you guys enjoy the build!

Check out a video guide with gameplay for this build!

This is a purely INT based build as the War Hammer is used for its utility since it doesn’t hit to hard. You should have all the INT passives when you put this guy together.

150 CON might seem like a bit of a weird choice since this is a bombing build, but I found it was super worthwhile because in order to land the bomb you have to be in a pretty dangerous position. So having the extra Health and Critical Resist will not only increase your chances of successfully landing the bomb, but also give you a better fighting chance afterwards.

The resists of this setup reflect the fact that we are playing in a ranged meta right now, focusing on reducing incoming Bow, Musket and Fire Staff damage. Often times when you are setting up the bomb you will be getting shot my projectiles!

Equipment

The Fire Staff must have both Stable Incinerate and Thwarting Strikes. These two perks alone give a massive 32% damage boost to Incinerate, not to mention the usefulness of GRIT. For the 3rd perk I would recommend Keenly Empowered, Vicious, or Keen for damage options. If you want to add more utility Keen Speed is a great choice too!

The War Hammer requires only one perk for this build, Sundering Shockwave. The AOE 14% Rend is a huge deal for setting up Incinerate combos. Try your best to get a Hammer that has CON or INT for the attributes too! If you don’t have Keen Speed on your staff, Keen + Keen Speed are a great choice here!

Ideally for general armor perks you want to have Resilient, Shirking Fortification, and Freedom. The gear I have here is not super optimal, and having at least some Freedom perks would have helped me a ton during my gameplay!

Shirking Energy is always a must for any Light Armor PvP build, even after the nerf in Brimstone.

I would highly recommend Empowering Fireball as well to make it a much more effective finisher!

Health + Shirking Empower are the necklace perks of choice, with Divines or Stamina Recovery being the 3rd perk if you can get them!

Hearty + Keen Awareness work well for the ring on this build, but you could also go for Fire Damage instead. Invigorated Punishment is a great 3rd perk to up your damage without having to meet any other requirements.

The Earing of this build is a perfect healing Earing for PvP, Mana Toast being especially useful as Mana potions have a very short cooldown!

The Brutal Heartrune of Detonate is perfect for this build, a very strong delayed AOE blast that you can time to land with incinerate! This Heartrune also gives a sizable 30% Haste buff while the Detonate is charging, making it perfect for getting into position for your bomb!

Food is always great to pack on more Attribute Points, and as always use Health, Regeneration, and Mana Potions too!

Active Skills

War Hammer

Wrecking Ball - 3/3 Upgrades

A fantastic knockdown that provides GRIT and a hefty Fortify buff. This skill is great for stunning people chasing you, especially because GRIT helps you win the knockdown exchange. I like to start my offensive stun combo’s with this skill as well, and then follow up with Shockwave to ensure it lands.

Shockwave - 3/3 Upgrades

A slow powerful AOE stun with GRIT that applies Rend thanks to the Sundering Shockwave perk on the Hammer. This skill is the perfect set-up to stun everyone and then land a huge AOE Incinerate. I would recommend trying to use this skill offensively to land some huge combos, and save you other Hammer knockdowns for the defensive play or to set up a Shockwave.

Clear Out - 4/4 Upgrades

A great knockback that also has GRIT. This skill is a bit slower then the Wrecking Ball knockdown to cast, and for this build it is primarily used defensively. The 30% haste you get for hitting someone is a massive speed boost that can come in super handy in PvP!

Fire Staff

Fireball - 3/3 Upgrades

A large AOE blast that you can fire at a distance, Fireball is perfect as the go to finisher for this build as it does a great job landing a big AOE to finish of any survivors. Feel free to use Pillar Of Fire here instead if you prefer that skill!

Incinerate - 4/4 Upgrades

The skill this whole build is built around, Incinerate will hit VERY HARD on this setup. A few things make this skill excellent for AOE bombing outside of the very high damage. This skill will apply 4 stacks of burning, making it easier to finish survivors off. You also have GRIT while using it, and it will knock back opponents while healing you. The healing is a huge deal to help get in and out of a bomb without dying. You can also use this skill defensively to keep people from running you down!

Burnout - 3/3 Upgrades

A very important mobility skill that helps this build big time with survival in PvP. Burn out is not only great for quickly breaking distance, but can be a very effective finishing move against a low health target!
